Recap of FIBEP's World Media Intelligence Congress in Cyprus

Updated: Dec 9, 2024

Getting more involved in the media intelligence community has not only been rewarding and helpful to my job at Muck Rack but has resulted in many new friendships from around the globe.

I just completed my first year as a board member of FIBEP, the world’s media intelligence industry association. My responsibility this past year was to plan the content for our World Media Intelligence Congress that just took place in the beautiful country of Cyprus (hosted by Clip News). I’m grateful for such a detail-oriented and dedicated committee. Thank you Amrita Sidhu, Katerina Kechagia and, Johannes Burk. The endless support and trust from our Secretary General Magdalena Horanska (CEO at NEWTON Media SEE), Zuzana, Viktoria and President Todd Murphy(President at Truescope) turned all our ideas into a reality. Thank you to my fellow board members. for all their support and contributions: Katerina Kechagia (Vice President at Clip News), Oresti Patricios (CEO at Ornico), Christophe Dickès (Media Digital expert), Romina Gersuni (Global Strategy Manager at pressrelations), Steffen Egelund (CEO at Media Track) and Carlos Alfredo Diaz (CEO at GlobalNews Group).

She shared how speech-to-text (STT) AI is evolving to include diverse languages and dialects for educational use cases and beyond. For the first time, we had live STT broadcast to our conference room enhancing the overall experience for our attendees and making it more accessible.

Katerina Kechagia from Clip News led a panel with Michael Sirivianos from the Mediterranean Digital Media Observatory (MedDMO) & Virginia Padovese from NewsGuard on Navigating Truth in the Age of AI. They covered the misinformation “arms race,” with insights on economic motivations behind fake news and tools for “information immunization.”

Todd Grossman (Placid Ventures) then took the stage on behalf of Cyabra to discuss Brand Disinformation: When Bots Attack Your Company. He showcased examples of bot attacks on brands and strategies for brand protection. I was the guinea pig for showing off in real-time how easy it is to create a fake Natan Edelsburg account. 😂
