On 22 March 2024, the Copyrights talks were held for the seventh time in Slovenia's capital, Ljubjana. With over 50 participants in attendance and 12 online, copyrights have never attracted so much attention from our members. The event, hosted by Kliping and organised by the Copyright Licensing & Fair Trade Committee, was primarily intended to introduce all members to the Committee's latest developments.
The Committee has now been strengthened by the arrival of Sarah Hamou (Pressrelations), Rita Domenech (Opoint) and Simona Bernabei(Volocom). Each is now in charge of a department of the committee under the responsibility of Christophe Dickès: respectively partnerships with market players, legal affairs and Copyright Data Room (CDR). The aim of the latter is to develop a database of resources available to our members. We'll be telling you more about this in the coming months.
In addition, this year, Copyright talks have shed light on three different aspects. Firstly, the event is always a way of taking stock of what's going on in various markets. In this way, we work on case studies. We looked at legal developments in Italy (Importance of the direct contracts and the definition of a fair remuneration), Slovenia (how the legislator works on the issue and has created limits on our activities), and the Netherlands (why it is so important to have a national media monitoring federation to defend the interest of the market). We also looked at the impact of exclusive deals (Intellectual property and competition law point of views) and AI on our business with concrete developments. Finally, two presentations looked at how to protect publishers' content in our business. In a few weeks' time, a podcats will give you the main ideas developed during the event.
We'll keep you posted on the work of the copyright committee!
